Print-Quality Pedigrees
Breeders Assistant's print-quality pedigrees can be customized in many ways to suit your needs e.g. to include different fields, change colors, fonts, include watermarks, photos etc.
Our print-quality pedigrees feature:
- Between 3 and 8 generations of ancestors.
- Include photos and watermarks.
- Optional breeder logo.
- Show highlighted ancestors, e.g. common ancestors or repeat ancestors.
- Choose the fields that are displayed, separately for the subject animal and each ancestor generation individually.
- Have titled animals colored how you want them.
- With multi-tagging, include tag symbols in pedigrees. [requires the Professional Edition (or better)]
- Choose from many different pedigree layouts - e.g. whether to include the signature line, whether to have a separate photo box, whether to include a breeder logo area, etc.
- Include calligraphic text for common wordings such as 'Pedigree', 'Pedigree Certificate', 'Trial Pedigree' etc.
- Include artistic borders and corners - all fully configurable. Breeders Assistant includes sample imagery - but you can use your own too.
- Customize the colors and fonts used throughout the pedigree.
- Choose between several styles of ancestors, including even circular pedigrees.
- Have sideways-on text - useful for squeezing a 5G or even 6G pedigree onto portrait A4/Letter paper.
- Print portrait or landscape on any size of paper with advanced printer support e.g. for manual tray loading, special papers etc.
- You can save printed pedigrees as images (PNG or JPEG) - e.g. for use in email.
- Control animal title colors - both 'before' and 'after' titles separately.
- Print pedigree cover sheets for folded pedigrees.
Photos In Pedigrees
There are several ways to incorporate photos (JPEG format) into print-quality pedigrees.
You can include a picture box in the top right of the pedigree to display the subject animal's photo. Simply store the photo on your computer in the normal way e.g. as a JPEG taken from camera, then within Breeders Assistant add the photo filename to the animal's record details. The photo will then automatically appear in pedigrees that include a picture box.
You can also include photos within the ancestor grid of the pedigree.
Watermark Images In Pedigrees
4 Generation Pedigree with Watermark, Decorative Border, Grid and Signature Line
You can set a watermark image to use as the background of any print-quality pedigree. The image need not be a photo of one of your animals, you could use a clipart drawing or similar. We do not include clipart with the product, but this is readily obtainable online.
The watermark needs to be faded sufficiently to avoid it obscuring the pedigree that appears on top. Breeders Assistant can fade the images - just enter a fade percentage and BA does it for you.
There are several options for controlling watermarks, including:
- Watermarks can be set separately for each different pedigree, contract, mating certificate1 etc. you use.
- Watermarks in pedigrees can either be fixed files (e.g. a breed study), or they can be the animal's own photo.
- You can control the watermark alignment, tiling, fading, position and magnification.

You can include decorative edges and corners in pedigrees and other printed documents in two different ways:
- Around the edge of the printed page - as in many of the examples you see here.
- and/or, individually around each box within a pedigree (or other document). E.g. you can include custom edges above and below the heading box.
Breeders Assistant is supplied with a range of standard styles, including various sample graphics and motifs. All the decorative border and corners used in the examples you see on this page are included in the program. You can - of course - use your own graphics too. Here are some sample corner styles included with the product:
Sample Decorative Corner
Sample Decorative Corner
When you set up a border you can individually control each corner and side of the area being framed - be it the whole page or a box within the page.
For the edges you can choose between various line styles or you might use a tiled graphic - e.g. to have paw prints running round all edges. Use of classic decorative borders with pedigree certificates gives a very professional result. Breeders Assistant is supplied with a range of ready-made pedigree layouts called 'Copperplate' that include decorative borders in conjunction with calligraphic text to create superb printed certificates.
You can use borders like these with most printed documents, and not just pedigrees. E.g. you can include them on sale contracts, mating agreements, stud cards etc.
To set the border of a document, first display it in the main window, then select Form Properties from the Form menu, click the Page Border tab and select from the various options.
Calligraphic Text In Pedigrees
You can use calligraphic text in pedigrees, trial matings etc. to give that true 'certificate' feel to your documents. We include calligraphic writing in a wide range of typefaces for common wordings such as 'Pedigree Certificate', 'Trial Pedigree' etc. These can be printed at any size.

Over 50 different typefaces are included.
Title Coloring In Pedigrees
Breeders Assistant offers great flexibility in how animal titles may be entered and displayed. BA supports both 'before' titles and 'after' titles, with independent color highlighting of both.
BA uses the term 'primary title' for the title, if any, that appears in front of the animal's name. A typical such title is 'Champion'. When you select an individual's primary title:
- You can enter both a long and short form of the title, e.g. 'Champion' and 'CH'. This is useful because many documents in BA - such as pedigrees - let you choose whether to use long or short form titles in various places. E.g. you could choose to use the long form for the subject animal and the first 2 generations of ancestors but use short titles for all other ancestors - because of the limited space available.
- You can choose the highlight style. This controls the appearance of the titled name in pedigrees. The normal style used is to output in red. You can have many different highlight styles if you want - e.g. to use different colors for different titles. You can also redefine standard styles e.g. if you don't have a color printer you might want to use bold rather than red.
E.g. you have an animal called 'Arripay George'. Without any primary title his name would normally appear in a pedigree as simply:
Arripay George
Adding the primary title as 'Champion', with short form 'CH' and default highlighting, he would now normally appear in a pedigree as:
Champion Arripay George
or
Drakan order of the flame download. CH Arripay George
- depending on whether the context in which the name appears is set to use the long or short form.
You can also assign any number of 'after' titles to an individual. These have their own highlight style that is controlled separately from the primary title. Thus you could choose a non-highlighted style, e.g.:
CH Arripay George CDX
or you could use a specific color, e.g:
Free Printable Pedigree Charts Blank
CH Arripay George CDX
You can control whether or not 'after' titles appear in pedigrees on a layout-by-layout basis. Likewise you can customize this separately for each generation of ancestors.
Email Pedigrees
Breeders Assistant provides 3 ways to produce pedigrees you can send by email.
- Image Pedigrees - print-quality pedigrees that you save as a JPEG/PNG file and then send as an attachment using your mail program.
- Text Pedigrees - which can be embedded directly within the body of an email.
- HTML Pedigrees - i.e. pedigrees formatted as HTML that can also be directly included in an email.
Litter Pedigrees
A litter pedigree is a pedigree generated from a mating record. The pedigree heading names the parents and can include other details of the mating.
Unlike 'normal' pedigrees, you don't need to enter the details of each litter mate separately in order to print their pedigrees.
These are used more often with the small mammal versions of Breeders Assistant, where you may not wish to record the individual details of each litter mate. You simply print however many litter pedigrees you require.
Litter pedigrees have the same wide range of options and types as with 'normal' print-quality pedigrees.
Trial Mating Pedigrees
4 Generation Trial Mating Pedigree with Color Predictions
A trial mating pedigree is used to see the pedigree that would result from a given mating. The pedigree can include inbreeding and relationship coefficients, details of the prospective parents and of course the ancestors.
You have the same configuration choices as for 'normal' print-quality pedigrees, apart from the circular style.
With the Professional Edition you can also include a genetic prediction within the trial mating pedigree, predicting the colors you can expect, theoretically, to be present and carried in the offspring.
The dog and cat versions of the product have detailed inbuilt knowledge of the color and disease genetics of most breeds of cat and dog. We cover over 50 of the most common breeds of dog, including 70+ congenital defects. The cat version has inbuilt support for over 35 of the most common breeds, including 30+ congenital defects for which the mode of inheritance is known.

Pedigree Cover Sheets
BA can print the front page or 'cover sheet' of a folded pedigree. You simply print the pedigree itself on one side, the cover sheet on the other side, then fold the whole thing in half like a booklet.
Several styles of cover sheet are included; you can customize these or design new ones.
Like other documents cover sheets can include photos (both varying from animal to animal, or a fixed photo), watermarks, your choice of fields, colors etc.
Circular Pedigrees
A circular pedigree is just like a traditional 'rectangular' pedigree, except that the ancestors are shown as a series of concentric rings. At the centre is the subject animal. The next ring gives the parents, then the grandparents and so on.
BA offers you the same extensive customization options for circular pedigrees as with all other print-quality pedigrees.
Note that due to the way fonts work, circular pedigrees tend to be less readable on screen than when printed. This is because computer screens are usually much lower resolution than printers, and screen fonts are designed to look their best when displayed horizontally.
Image Pedigrees
Instead of printing a pedigree, you can save it as an image file. The main use for this is when you want to email a pedigree and text or HTML pedigrees are unsuitable.
BA can save image pedigrees in PNG and JPEG format. PNG is the best for use on the web because its portable between different platforms (e.g. Mac) and does not involve loss of quality in the image (unlike JPEG).
To create an image pedigree in BA, all you need do is:
- Display the pedigree on-screen as if you were going to print it
- Select Save As from the Form menu
- Enter the filename (e.g. 'mypedigree.png'), and choose any options you want
- Click OK.
When saving an image pedigree you have the following options: Dell b1165nfw scan software.
Free Printable Dog Pedigree Generator
- Select the size of the image (in pixels). You can either select a screen size within which the image is to be made to fit e.g. to force creation of an image that will display in 800x600, or 1024x768 etc.; OR you can simply choose an image resolution in DPI and BA will determine the pixel size based on 'natural' printed size of the pedigree.
- Select a margin size - in pixels.
- Optionally choose whether to have a shadowed 'paper edge' added round the image.
Web Pedigrees
Breeders Assistant provides 2 ways to produce pedigrees you can use on web sites.
- Image Pedigrees - print-quality pedigrees that you save as a JPEG/PNG file and then include on your web site.
- HTML Pedigrees - i.e. pedigrees formatted as HTML pages that can be directly included on your web site.
HTML Pedigrees
Breeders Assistant creates HTML pedigrees for use on your web site or in email. You can save these as HTML files, or preview them in your browser, or copy the HTML text to the clipboard.
BA's HTML pedigrees are standalone web pages that you can include directly in your web site - or you can transfer the HTML to your web authoring program to merge into existing pages.
Breeders Assistant includes various standard HTML pedigree layouts, or you can create your own. Options include:
- Between 2 and 6 generations ancestors
- Photos - not just of the subject animal but optionally also for the ancestors2
- Your choice of fields that are displayed, separately for the subject animal and each ancestor generation individually
- Control colors, fonts, ancestor column widths, whether to include generation titles, etc.
- Control of colors used for animal titles - both 'before' and 'after' titles separately2
HTML pedigrees are not the only way to create pedigrees for use on a web site. You can also use image pedigrees and dynamic web pedigrees.
Likewise, HTML pedigrees are not the only way to include pedigrees in email. You can use image pedigrees and text pedigrees as well.
Text Pedigrees
A text pedigree is a very compact way to express a pedigree.
Breeders Assistant includes several text pedigree layouts. Options include:
- Up to 16 generations
- Compact or spaced-out style
- Your choice of fields that are displayed, separately for the subject animal and each ancestor generation individually
Reverse Pedigrees
A reverse pedigree is like a specially formatted list of descendants that shows the familial links between the generations. Effectively its a family tree shown sideways on.
Options include:
- The no. of generations of descendants to include (max 8)
- The order in which descendants at each level are sorted
- The fields that are output for each descendant

What Records should you keep to Raise Rabbits Successfully?
It’s a fact: if you want to be successful in raising show rabbits, record keeping is vital. But which ones really matter?
As a teen, I made up all kinds of record sheets for my bunnies. I had record sheets to track nearly everything: litters, shows, feed economics, health, hereditary traits, rabbits sold, chores accomplished, show quality of developing juniors, you name it. I had a lot more fun making record sheets than I had filling them out. In fact, I hardly ever filled out most of them.
Eventually I cut the fat out of my record book. It wasn’t as sophisticated anymore, but I trimmed it down to the records I actually kept and needed. And I was left with the following:
–Pedigrees of course: (Hint: custom-designed pedigrees are more fun than software-generated ones.)
–Rabbits Sold: Write down every bunny sold and who you sold it to. That way, when someone contacts you about the rabbit they sold them, you’re not sitting there wondering which rabbit they bought.
–Income and Expenses: Not fun, but must be done.
–Doe Breeding Cards: This is important. Tells you at a glance who was bred to who and when. Easy reference to look up kits’ birth dates, as well as to keep track of which of your does consistently produce nice offspring.
–Show records when Grand Champion Legs are won: Placements that didn’t win legs became extraneous. I mean, two years later, do we really care that Chad beat Rocky…AGAIN?
–Handy Dandy Calendar: To doodle on regarding show dates and due dates.
-The Rabbitry Journal: All my other extraneous records begone, and enter the Journal. This was the single most helpful record I kept. Every Sunday I made an entry in the rabbitry journal, just rambling about what happened in the past week. I made notes on how the breeding program was going, litters born and how they went. I jotted a recap of shows I went to. If I was trying out a new feed supplement or had to purchase pellets, I wrote it down. If a bunny was sneezing, or I suspected one of having fur mites, I wrote it down. Basically I jotted down any notable events that happened in the past week. That way I could keep track of how my management practices were evolving and affecting the success of my rabbitry. If a problem occurred, I could trace it back to where it began and what was happening at the time.

So – here you go. Record sheets you can download and print for your very own.
To download, right-click either “pdf” or “word” under each icon. Then click “save link as” if you are using firefox, or “save target as” if you are using IE.
Show Records – I used this one on a rabbitry-wide basis: I only kept one sheet for the whole rabbitry and noted several rabbits’ placements on it in each show. But you could print one of these for each rabbit if you prefer.
